Performance Medicine is an Australian sports physiotherapy clinic with two locations in Australia; Naarm/Melbourne and Gadigal Country/Sydney. At Performance Medicine we are passionate about, and committed to bringing sports science and the performing arts together. Our journey began in the mid 2000's when our founder, Annie, was working as a physiotherapist backstage in London on a myriad of West End shows (WICKED, Billy Elliot, Chicago to name a few). Annie’s role was to support the artists with their dancing, acting and singing so that they could perform night after night. Annie collaborated with the UK’s leading creative teams (directors & choreographers) to ensure a sustainable and consistent show every night.
Today, Performance Medicine continues this collaborative approach with international and national experts to develop the most effective treatment program. Incorporating the science of sports medicine and sports physiotherapy, we create innovative programming for performing artists facing challenging voice and vocal related problems. The team and business is now celebrating over a decade together and has developed a multidisciplinary group of internationally experienced practitioners. These include Physiotherapists, Doctors, Massage Therapists and Myotherapists with over 80 years of combined experience in the performing arts and sporting arenas.
We distinguish ourselves by being a leading sports injury treatment, management and rehabilitation clinic with facilities that help us live the dream of bringing Art and Science together. This includes VALD force decks, gym and dance studio setup. We have national and international experience on some of the biggest productions including; HAMILTON, WICKED, Moulin Rouge!, Beauty & the Beast, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (to name a few). We are the resident physiotherapists for the Melbourne Theatre Company, international production houses, dance and circus schools. Importantly, the team love working at a grassroots level with local schools, teachers and amateur production teams as this is how a positive impact is made on the performing arts industry. You don’t need to be a “top talent” on an internationally recognised show to be part of our community.
Performance Medicine is also the Australian home of Vocal Physical Therapy; manual therapy for the larynx and voice. Annie discovered this approach working in London with physiotherapist, Ed Blake. The team continue their multidisciplinary approach to achieve the best results for their clients by working with ENT Specialists, Speech Pathologists and vocal coaches for voice disorders, performance voice issues and throat pain syndromes. Annie has created manual therapy training that she presents both nationally and internationally. The team at Performance Medicine live each day through their core values filter that include: We get it, Clinical Excellence, Owning It, Together we are better, Celebrate Diversity, Creative Solutions. You don’t need to be a performer to see the Performance Medicine team. What we can assure you, is that we will provide you with exceptional treatment and rehabilitation that is evidence based so you can find your exceptional.
