Maria Anagnostou (she/her) is an APA titled sports and exercise physiotherapist and Clinic Director of Performance Medicine Sydney. 

Maria is an experienced sports physio with expertise in injury management and rehabilitation for sports and the performing arts. She has a special interest in artistic sports, kicking sports, dance physio, circus physio and athletes with hypermobility. She is highly skilled in managing complex sports injuries, “atypical athletes” and physiotherapy for junior elite athletes. 

Maria has been a key member of the Sydney Performance Medicine Team since 2016 with vast experience working with performers, cast and crew. She spent the past 10 years as a senior sports physio at Sports Lab as well as Physio for the NSW institute of Sport (NSWIS) diving program from 2012-2021. She has been physio for multiple other elite, state and National sports programs since 2005. 

Additionally, Maria has expertise in sports physio for children and adolescents. She has extensive knowledge of the demands on kids in high level sport, injuries in the growing athlete, and the realities of being part of an elite junior program or development squad. She also has an interest in injury screening and injury prevention programming across sports and the arts.

Away from the clinic Maria loves spending time with friends and family and getting away when opportunity allows. She personally has a passion for Latin dancing and has been a yogi for 20+ years.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Health Sciences (Physiology and Psychology)
  • Masters of Physiotherapy at UniSA 
  • Masters in Sports Physiotherapy

She has completed extensive professional development within the physiotherapy realm but also beyond including Australian Strength and Conditioning and is a qualified yoga teacher.
