Elissa Petesic (she/her)

Physiotherapist - APAM

Elissa (She/Her) is a physiotherapist with a passion for treating dancers and performers. She has a special interest in hypermobility as well as foot and ankle injuries.

Elissa graduated from the Australian Catholic University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy after studying dance full time at Ev & Bow. As a dancer she discovered Pilates and its benefits in cross training and movement refinement leading her to complete her Pilates qualifications through Polestar Pilates whilst at university. She has spent time in New York City learning from Physical therapists and Pilates instructors working with dancers gaining exposure to international practices and treatment of performers. As a physiotherapist she has worked in acute care in public hospitals as well as private practice focusing on rehabilitating sporting and dance injuries and conditioning to improve performance and prevent injury. She has completed further professional development in dance injuries, hypermobility, the foot and ankle and hip and pelvic pain.

Elissa’s own dance experience has given her expertise in the demands placed on performers and she has expertise working closely with dancers of all levels. She has been onsite Physiotherapist for over ten musical theatre productions travelling through Sydney. Elissa is passionate about education and has presented lectures on anatomy and injury prevention to dancers and dance teachers of all levels.  She enjoys empowering a faster return to performance by teaching dancers to understand their bodies better. 

In her spare time, Elissa enjoys spending time at the beach as well as exploring any dessert recommendations and baking many sweet treats herself.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Diploma of Polestar Pilates Studio and Rehabilitation Method 
  • Certificate IV in Polestar Pilates Matwork Instruction Method
