WELCOME TO THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE PERFORMANCE MEDICINE TEAM!
Sports Doctor & General Practitioner DR. Jason Lam
We are thrilled to announce that we are welcoming Jason to our team so that we are able to help more clients in more ways, to reach their ultimate performance!
Jason was originally a professional dancer with Opera Australia, Sydney Dance Company and Tasdance before transitioning his career to the medical field.
He is passionate about performers’ and athlete’s health and is the Crichton Dance Medicine Fellow with The Australian Ballet. He also recently covered the boxing at the Commonwealth Games and the Victorian BJJ championships.
One of the things we loved about Jason when we were first in discussion with him is that he is actively involved in research. He has just finished writing a textbook chapter on the foot and ankle, ‘Clinical Neuromusculoskeletal Pain Syndromes of the Foot and Ankle‘- which is much longer and way less fun than Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He also developed an online course in Dance Medicine for
the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians. He teaches point of care ultrasound through the Royal Australian College of General Practice, and has published on the non surgical management of complex finger fractures. He is also a medical educator with Eastern Victoria GP training and is passionate about evidence based practice and teaching the next generation of doctors. These elements are all factors in why Jason will be a fantastic asset to the PM Team, as he continues to actively contribute to making the lives of performers better and is able to directly relate to injuries and the best non-surgical ways to manage pain.
Jason initially trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery and has particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer and minimally scarring surgical techniques, hand injuries and dermatology. He has a long running competition for postnomials with his sister and has also undertaken further study with a Diploma of Child Health and a Masters of Sports Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Lam is passionate about helping you realise your peak performance and health and is a staunch believer in slow medicine. He would love to assist you with your musculoskeletal or general medical issues and understands the demands required for dancers and performers. We want to make sure our patients feel comfortable and are confident that Jason will take the time to educate you on your condition and keep you on track.
Excitingly, Jason still teaches ballet with a particular interest in the rehabilitation of dancers. We are so happy to see a medical practitioner still engaging in creative pursuits!
Availability: Jason will be available for consultation on Friday mornings.
