Quick Tips to Relieve Swelling

Quick Tips to Relieve Swelling

Swelling can be frustrating and at times painful, and while your therapist can help to reduce it through massage and mobilisations, did you know you could help to reduce it yourself, and it’s so easy you can do it in your sleep!

Bexters Soda Crystals are made from Sodium Carbonate and can be applied to the swollen area and left over night. They can help to relieve stubborn swelling from joints and muscles and are readily available.

How do I use them?

>      Test the crystals on a small area of the skin, if your skin does not react then you are able to use the crystals

>      Place 2/3 cup, or ½ cup for sensitive skin, of soda crystals in a stocking or thin cotton sock

>      Wrap the pack around the swollen area

>      Secure it with Tubigrip or a sock and leave for 3-4 hours or, ideally, overnight

>      You may want to put a towel under the area to absorb any fluid

>      They can be used 2-3 times per week

Caution: Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds. Do not apply on consecutive days, as the sodium can dehydrate the skin. Sodium may cause skin irritation, if irritation occurs rinse the area and discontinue use.

How do they work?

>      Soda crystals are made from Sodium Carbonate and help to draw fluid out of the swollen area through the skin via osmosis

>      They help to relieve aching and swelling
