Joseph Pilates developed Pilates in the 1900s. His philosophy was that our mind and bodies are deeply connected, and that concentration on precision of movement and good posture would allow the body to achieve great things. It is a low impact form of exercise that taps into positioning yourself in the most efficient way to execute movement or muscle activation. Singing is a whole body activity. It is important that singers position themselves in the most efficient way for the larynx. So it makes sense that using an exercise method that is designed to improve your ability to position your body correctly be used in conjunction with singing.
