Are you a singer? Are you looking to take your singing to the next stage? Are you wondering how you can increase your body awareness to help your singing?
If you answered YES to any of these questions then the Pilates for Singers course at Performance Medicine is just for you! Physiotherapists who are well versed in working with singers have developed this 6-week mat Pilates course. Time and time again we see how a singer’s posture can effect the muscle tension around the larynx and breathing mechanics. Each week of the course draws a focus to some of the key body parts that are used to sing. The unique thing about this course is that singers get a chance to explore how activating different myofascial slings, positioning themselves in various postures, and moving or not moving different body parts effects their voice. Yes, you get to sing and vocalise!
“Every moment of our life can be the beginning of great things.” Joseph Pilates
Joseph Pilates developed Pilates in the 1900s. His philosophy was that our mind and bodies are deeply connected, and that concentration on precision of movement and good posture would allow the body to achieve great things. It is a low impact form of exercise that taps into positioning yourself in the most efficient way to execute movement or muscle activation.
Singing is a whole body activity. It is important that singers position themselves in the most efficient way for the larynx. So it makes sense that using an exercise method that is designed to improve your ability to position your body correctly be used in conjunction with singing.
The next course starts on Monday February 12. Send an email to: [email protected] to find out more.
