DESCRIPTION: Do you have patients who lose their voice\, complain of throat pain\, or have swallowing issues? \nDo you understand the relationship between the larynx\, neck and TMJ?\nDiscover how Vocal Physiotherapy can assist you to assess and manage laryngeal dysfunction – the missing link. This course has been designed specifically for  physiotherapists or osteopaths who wish to learn more about the larynx\, voice and Vocal Physiotherapy treatment. \nOver two practical modules of Vocal Physiotherapy you will learn techniques that will be immediately applicable in your daily clinical practice.  These modules will help you understand the clinical rationale and clinical implications of voice and larynx dysfunction and importantly\, how to tackle it. \n Module One: Foundations of Voice   –   Sat 2 & Sun 3 May\, 2020\nModule Two: The Challenging Larynx: The Performance & Pathological Voice –  Sat 5 & Sun 6 September\, 2020\n \nMODULE ONE: Foundations of Voice\nSat 2 & Sun 3 May\, 2020\nThis is a practical introduction to Vocal Physiotherapy for physiotherapists. \nAfter this module you will have a deeper understanding of the anatomy\, physiology and biomechanics of the laryngeal mechanism and how the voice is produced.  The practical sessions will allow you to apply this knowledge to assess the larynx and perilaryngeal region and what the clinical implications of your findings may be to guide your treatment choices.\nPractical technique sessions will teach you how to use unique manual techniques to treat and manage your clinical findings and alleviate voice and throat disorders. Learn how to apply these techniques to not only the voice but to many upper quadrant issues as well.\nModule One: Foundations of the Voice Objectives\nUpon completion of this course participants will be able to: \n\n\nDefine the anatomy of the larynx\n\n\nDefine basic vocal fold physiology\n\n\nDefine basic voice disorders and the medical assessment\n\n\nExplain speech pathology input into voice disorders\n\n\nUnderstand laryngeal manual therapy research\n\n\nExplain the maladaptive voice cycle\n\n\nExplain the neuromuscular cycle breaker in voice use\n\n\nDemonstrate basic laryngeal assessment skills\n\n\nDemonstrate basic laryngeal palpation skills\n\n\nDemonstrate basic laryngeal manual techniques\n\n\nDescribe appropriate basic techniques for muscle tension dysphonia \n\n\nThis is a small course to ensure you get the hands on support you need.\nA comprehensive manual is included.\nRefreshments\, morning tea and lunch are provided. Please enter any dietary requirements when you register.\nIndividual course fee: $990 (inc GST)\n\nMODULE TWO: The Challenging Larynx: Performance & Pathological Voice\nSat 5 & Sun 6 September 2020\nModule Two allows you to further develop your vocal manual therapy skills.  The focus of these two days are on the pathological voice and performance voice.  You will learn how to tune up the performance voice.
